Jaw Contouring
Jaw Contouring is a surgical procedure that reshapes the jawline and mandible to create a more balanced, refined, and harmonious facial appearance. In the context of facial feminization, it reduces the prominence of the jaw angles to produce a softer, more tapered lower-face contour.
Performed by Dr. Adibfar at Elements Toronto, this procedure is often a key component of facial feminization surgery but can also be performed to improve overall facial proportions for any patient.
The surgery is best performed once facial bones are fully developed. Dr. Adibfar assesses bone structure and skin elasticity and, through small incisions placed inside the mouth or via discreet external approaches, carefully shaves and smooths the mandible to achieve a natural, refined result.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery varies from patient to patient, but the following timeline provides a general guideline:
- First 48–72 hours: Swelling and discomfort are expected. Head elevation and cold compresses, as directed, help manage swelling during this initial phase.
- Week 1: Bruising and swelling begin to improve. A soft diet is strongly recommended. Strenuous activity should be avoided.
- Weeks 1–2: Most patients are comfortable returning to work and light daily activities. Some swelling persists but is generally manageable.
- Weeks 3–6: Swelling continues to resolve and the jawline begins to take its new shape. Exercise may be gradually reintroduced once cleared by Dr. Adibfar.
- 3–6 months: Residual swelling diminishes further, revealing the refined jawline contour. Final results become fully apparent as healing is complete.
Dr. Adibfar will provide detailed post-operative instructions and monitor your healing closely throughout your recovery to ensure the best possible outcome.
